Jesse Lingard is refusing to sign his renewal contract

The England international is in his last year of contract and is reluctant to sign until he receives assurance that he will play more minutes at Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard could be one of the most desired players in the Premier League during the coming winter market. Manchester United seem ready to accept an offer of only 17.5 million pounds, according to The Sun, if the 28-year-old midfielder does not sign his contract extension.

The Old Trafford group made him an offer of £ 135,000 a week, but Lingard has not accepted it yet. And if the footballer decides to leave eventually, the club does not want to lose him by letting him go as a free agent.

Lingard is a player on the list of several clubs in the Premier League, but also other big clubs from Europe showed interest in him. West Ham is obviously the main contender for his services after a great and successful loan to the London club in the second half of last season and the player felt very well and was a great fit in the team. He scored 9 goals in 19 games, being a key player in their Top 6 ranking at the end of the season.

With the freedom to operate among the Hammers in the middle of the pitch, the creative midfielder quickly established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League at that moment. In total, he scored nine goals and four assists in 16 games for West Ham, the kind of form that led to a double individual trophies: ‘best player’ and also ‘goal of the month’ in April.

Leicester is another club that would like Lingard in their team.

Brendan Rodgers' club tried to transfer him in the summer as well. Last but not least, the future english power Newcastle could be another destination for the midfielder. Rio Ferdinand has nominated him on the list of players that the new owners of Newcastle should do their best to sign him up as soon as possible.

After returning from loan back to Manchester United, Jesse Lingard played less than he would have expected after the performances he had at West Ham United, but even in these conditions he stood out. He played in 6 games for the "red devils" this season and managed to score 2 goals. One was a 3 points goal, considering that he scored in the 90th minute in the away game with... West Ham (2-1) ! It also passed decisively to Cristiano Ronaldo in the 95th minute goal with Villarreal in the Champions League (2-1) to keep alive the qualification in the Champions League next stage.

Jesse Lingard is also part of Gareth Southgate's plans, being summoned to the September and October actions of the England national team. He also scored 2 goals in a dispute with Andorra.

Lingard still hopes to secure a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for next year's World Cup as he is aware that the Manchester United chapter of his career will soon have to be closed for good in order for him to play more.

The 28-year-old would have had enough of no action due to the lack of the playing time in the first weeks of the campaign, after playing only 45 minutes of in all competitions. Lingard wanted to see how many minutes of play he would receive from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, as in the second half of last season he evolved on loan at West Ham. Maybe now he will get more chances if we consider a new head coach will be appointed soon.

However, Lingard has only played one game for Manchester United this season starting in the first eleven ( in the Carabao Cup with West Ham ) and surprisingly he has played more minutes on the pitch for the England national team than at his own club.

The English international definitely wants to increase his chances of being selected by Gareth Southgate for the World Cup 2022 from Qatar, after he unluckily missed being present in the England squad at the final tournament of EURO 2020 last summer.

Lingard has, of course, now overtakenthe his role in mass media discussions in the recently closed transfer window and if he leaves Manchester United at the end of June 2022, he will end a period of over 20 years he spent at the club from Old Trafford.
