Nuno Espirito Santo is sacked by Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur said goodbye to Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday morning, this being one of the shortest coaching duties in Premier League history.

Cristiano Ronaldo saved Solskjaer's job, but contributed to the dismissal of a compatriot from the Premier League when Nuno Espirito Santo lost his job at Tottenham, after 0-3 with Manchester United on the "White Harte Lane" stadium. This was the third defeat in the last four stages and the fifth in 10 rounds. Tottenham currently ranks eighth in the standings, ten points away from leader Chelsea London.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s duty lasted only 124 days managing the North London team and went down in Premier League history, being one of the shortest coaching terms. Specifically, he is the 12th shortest coaching term in Premier League history.

The Lusitanian was a goalkeeper for FC Porto, Deportivo La Coruna, Osasuna and Dinamo Moscow and as a coach he trained Rio Ave, Valencia, FC Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the four seasons spent on the "wolves' bench", he had managed to be promoted to the Premier League, followed by two 7th place finishes and a quarter-final in the Europa League.

Nuno Espirito Santo, 47, Espirito Santo had been the club's eighth choice! He had been offered the job after negotiations with Julian Naglesmann, Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Rino Gattuso had stalled and this way he was appointed as Spurs coach in June when he signed a two-season contract with the London club after four years in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nuno's adventure at Tottenham had a dream start, with 3 victories in the first 3 stages of the Premier League, the first of them against the Manchester City champions, but then things went from bad to worse. In the next 7 games of the championship, Spurs recorded 5 defeats, 3 of them with the team not scoring at all (0-3 with Palace, Chelsea and Man United).

Even if Tottenham do not pay too much attention to the Conference League competition, the draw with Rennes and the defeat with Vitesse Arnhem in this competition also contributed to the dismissal of Nuno. The only remarkable thing in the Portuguese's short term on Tottenham's bench is that he led the team to the quarter-finals of the English League Cup.

The Portuguese was sacked after a consultation between Fabio Paratici, the club's sporting director, and Daniel Levy, Tottenham's president. Interim for the match with Vitesse in the Conference League could be Ledley King, the former captain of the team and the one who fulfilled the role of First team assistant.

The officials of Tottenham stated: "We regret the decision and we know how much Nuno wanted to be successful. He's a real gentleman and he's always welcome here. We thank him and his staff and wish him continued success ", announced Fabio Paratici. The sports director wants to find a replacement until Thursday's match with Vitesse, from the Conference League.

Favorite to take his place on Espirito Santo's London bench is Antonio Conte, the former Italian champion with Juventus and Inter Milan, who is also in advanced talks with Manchester United and Newcastle United.

He would ask to have a veto on the future transfers of the team, but also a major reshuffle of the group of players in the next two transfer market periods. Also on the list are Sergio Conceicao, the current coach of FC Porto and Ryan Mason, the former interim last season, after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. But Antonio Conte is the big favorite to take the vacancy.

Although the Italian, who worked with Paratici at Juve and also trained Chelsea, winning the title and the Cup, does not normally agree to take over teams during the season.

According to Evening Standard journalists, Tottenham bosses also have one other alternative solution: Paulo Fonseca, who is also wanted by Newcastle. The former Roma coach was one step away from taking over Tottenham in the summer, but the two sides did not understand each other then.

Given that there will be a two-week break in November, dedicated to international matches, it is very likely that Spurs officials will not rush into making a decision and appoint a new coach until after the game with Everton, in the 11th round of the Premier League.
